Beach Vacation in Koh Lanta

Tuesday the 14th

Although we were leaving at 11 for the island, we got up early and explored the nearby streets in search of breakfast. Thai people don't really set up shop until after 11am during this holiday it seems though so we just raided the 7/11 and attempted to get info from the local Tourist Authority office. Their English was very bad though and they didn't have a printed schedule of the bus transports, so we left with a map of Krabi providence and a few suggestions on how we'd get back to Bangkok in a few days. The minibus that picked us up was a long journey. We were the first on and the last off and it was over 2 hours of riding in a less then ideal air conditioned bus jammed full our travelers. The main Ferry to Koh Lanta only runs twice a day between Krabi and Koh Lanta and waking up and getting tickets so early in the morning was not convenient. This Minibus system, drive people along the coast to the south and then takes two, much smaller, ferry services to the island. As an added bonus it also drops you off where you are staying.
Pulling in to Koh Lanta Family resort was nice. They put us in a air conditioned bungalow that you could see the beach from the patio.

Their beach front was lined with above ground shaded sitting areas and a bar. They catered to almost all of our needs, renting us a motorbike, doing our laundry, feeding us. It was very nice and they were very sweet people.

The first night, we went back to town on the moped and enjoyed street food and light shopping. When we returned home, we had trouble finding out resort but Collin had paid better attention on the landmarks and delivered us home safe! We walked the beach drinking at different bars and eating some fresh grilled fish and pineapple fried rice. I was tipsy and serving it in the shell of the pineapple was very thrilling. The cost of booze was pretty expensive though. The beach bars decorate themselves with lanterns and twinkling light, so it was beautiful and very dreamy.
I was super intrigued by these triangle pillows you can lay against with great support. I want to try and make one!
